da dobrowin: Ever since Arsene Wenger took over as Arsenal manager in 1996, he has endeavoured to develop younger players and help them reach their potential.
da bet nacional: Over the years we have seen the likes of Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas and Robin Van Persie arrive at a young age and leave as much better players.
More recently, Arsenal fans have complained that it is something Wenger focuses on too much, with his stubbornness in sticking with his own charges rather than investing in new talent arguably holding the club back.
It is a criticism that seems to have signalled a slight change in policy over the last few seasons with the Frenchman dipping into the transfer market to bring in world class players like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
The introduction of such established talent is making it more difficult for his youngsters to break through, with some stagnating. Here are three we think need to move on for the sake of their own careers.
ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN
Once touted as one of England’s best young talents, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has become another Three Lions midfielder who impresses in spurts but has never established himself as a constant quality performer.
Injuries and lack of consistency have held the 23-year-old back and he now only gets a run in the side when players like Theo Walcott or Alexis Sanchez are unavailable.
Still relatively young, Chamberlain undoubtedly has talent and should be looking to find regular first-team football to improve his game and challenge for a regular place in the national side.
DAVID OSPINA
David Ospina feels like he’s been around for a while yet – at just 28 years old – he is still relatively young for a goalkeeper.
From his time at Nice, the Colombian looked like he had what it takes to go far in the game and he appeared the real deal when he took the number one spot from Wojciech Szczesny in the 2014/15 season.
Since then, Petr Cech has been brought in and Ospina has been relegated to cup and European duties. As he showed against Paris St Germain, however, he can still cut it against the top sides and should consider a move abroad to play consistently.
JACK WILSHERE
Jack Wilshere made a positive move at the start of the season when he signed for Bournemouth on a season-long loan.
Wilshere is getting regular first-team football at the Cherries and seems to be getting back to the form that excited Arsenal fans years ago.
The 24-year-old struggled with injury while at Arsenal but it suffering no such problems in new surroundings.
When he returns to Arsenal he’ll still have the likes of Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey to compete with even if he stays fit. He should therefore consider moving somewhere where he can be the centre-piece.
