da mrbet: Everton got back to winning ways on Tuesday night with a hard-fought 3-0 win at the Cardiff City Stadium, and the performance of Lucas Digne should give fans a lot of faith that their transfer dealings are finally in the right hands.
It’s been quite a weird season for Everton, as before the last-minute heartbreak at Anfield it felt like the campaign fans have been yearning for.
Marco Silva and Marcel Brands had arrived with exciting signings, positive football and a double dose of charisma and charm, and the Toffees were playing their best football since the pinnacle of the Roberto Martinez era.
Things have gone badly wrong and then even worse since that 1-0 defeat to the Reds though, and before Tuesday Silva’s side had lost five of their last six games in all competitions.
The Toffees had little difficulty dispatching Cardiff though, and although a brace from Gylfi Sigurdsson led the way, they have Digne to thank for it.
The 23-cap French international has been superb barring the odd poor performance this season, having joined for a fee of around £18m last summer.
He has shown off his attacking capabilities a lot since arriving on Merseyside, but it was his defensive intelligence that was required on Tuesday night.
The 25 year-old may just have rescued a catastrophe by clearing a sure goal in the opening moments, and he went on to win an incredible 13 aerial duels over the course of the match.
He touched the ball 95 times, the most of any player on the pitch, made two tackles and a whopping seven clearances, proving he is the complete modern full-back.
Players who were already at the club like Theo Walcott, Seamus Coleman and Tom Davies have underperformed this season, but most of Brands and Silva’s signings have made a positive impact, and none more so than Digne.
Despite the Toffees’ worrying run of form, the club is clearly in good hands, and stability is now required to allow the pair to bring in more gems like the £18m Digne.
