da heads bet: According to Football Insider, Crystal Palace are in advanced talks to sign Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker-Peters on a loan deal until the end of the season.
What’s the word, then?
da pixbet: Well, the Eagles are believed to be ‘increasingly confident’ of signing the England U21 international on a loan deal from Spurs, after Jose Mourinho gave the green light over the deal.
Football Insider also report that discussions have taken place between the two London sides over an option to buy Walker-Peters permanently at the end of the season, when the loan move would be set to expire.
The 22-year-old has made just three Premier League appearances this season under both Mauricio Pochettino and Mourinho, as well as one appearance in the Champions League which came in a 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich.
Shows Dougie Freedman is learning lessons
Interestingly, one nugget of information within Football Insider’s report suggests that Palace Sporting Director Dougie Freedman is learning lessons from previous loanees who have come and gone at Selhurst Park.
Deals for Chelsea duo Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Michy Batshuayi came without an option to buy at the end of the campaign, and after both of them impressed for the Eagles in their respective loans with Palace, the chance to sign them on a permanent basis became too difficult as the Blues opted to keep the duo at Stamford Bridge.
Batshuayi scored five goals in nine Premier League starts last term in red and blue, while Loftus-Cheek managed to get into the England World Cup squad following his time in SE25, which ultimately made it too difficult for either of them to be signed permanently.

By negotiating an option to buy before Walker-Peters has even kicked a ball for Palace means that the south Londoners will be in a stronger negotiating position at the end of the season if the right-back impresses, and would mean that there would be a fixed fee that wouldn’t suffer the risk of inflation should the Englishman do well.
