West Ham are currently in difficulty at the bottom of the Premier League and, with just nine games left, their top flight survival is anything but secure.
They are currently in 16th position, just two points ahead of Bournemouth in the relegation zone. There has been little for them to shout home about this term – which should not really be the case bearing in mind they have spent £99.18m across the past two transfer windows.
It wasn’t meant to be like this. The Hammers, having moved into the 60,000 capacity London Stadium, will have been hoping to get themselves a seat closer to the top table, but that has failed to be the case, and it seems the most recent big call from David Sullivan and David Gold has done little to reverse their fortunes.

In December, David Moyes was brought back to the London Stadium in the hope that he could steer them away from trouble. The Irons got off to a fantastic start, beating Bournemouth 4-0 in the 56-year-old’s first match following his appointment – but that is only one of two wins he has managed in nine league games to date. The two draws he has picked up means he has amassed just eight points since his arrival – only two more than Manuel Pellegrini in his last nine matches as West Ham boss.
There have been more goals, for sure – he has managed 14 in his first nine compared to his predecessor’s seven in his final nine – but he has still failed to get enough out of this side on a regular basis. It is not as though there is a lack of quality at Moyes’ disposal – record signing Sebastien Haller scored 20 goals and provided 12 assists for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, whilst both Issa Diop and Declan Rice have been transfer targets for Manchester United over the past 12 months.
Don’t forget that Pellegrini guided West Ham through a run of one loss in their first seven games as well – he at least had something in the bank before his demise. Moyes has done little to improve his team’s fortunes – it may soon be back to the drawing board for the club’s hierarchy.
