da casino: Tottenham’s transfer record in recent seasons has been pretty laughable.
da cassino: The way they recklessly splashed the Gareth Bale money on over-inflated, untested, so-called big name players – and some small names, too – had the rest of the country sniggering to themselves. They were the perfect example that you can’t replace a world class player with a bunch of players who aren’t world class and still expect to challenge for the top four.
But recently they seem to have learned their lesson by being a bit more cautious in the transfer market. Deli Alli was obviously one of the shrewdest signings of the summer (though they did buy him last January and sent him back to MK Dons on loan) and the likes of Heung-min Son and Toby Alderweireld have also been brilliant signings by Mauricio Pochettino.
While they’ve improved their judgement in the buying market, it’s the players they’re reportedly looking to sell that is beginning to look a bit puzzling – particularly one name that has come to our attention.
Federico Fazio has struggled to force his way in to the starting XI at White Hart Lane since he arrived at the club in an £8million deal from Sevilla 18 months ago.
Reports this January claim he’s pushing for a move back to Sevilla and is waiting patiently for the two clubs to come to an agreement so that he can end his Spurs nightmare – Spurs have already rejected a loan offer from the Spaniards this week.
But according to WhoScored, Fazio was Tottenham’s second best performer of 2015, only behind goal machine Harry Kane, with a rating of 7.32.
However, what’s most interesting is that the Argentine defender only made 10 Premier League appearances for Spurs in 2015, which is at least half of the other top ten top performers at White Hart Lane…
1. Harry Kane – 7.44 (39 aaps)
2. Federico Fazio – 7.32 (10 apps)
3. Dele Alli – 7.26 (18 apps)
4. Danny Rose – 7.26 (25 apps)
5. Jan Vertonghen – 7.15 (37 apps)
6. Mousa Dembele – 7.14 (31 apps)
7. Toby Alderweireld – 7.11 (20 apps)
8. Christian Eriksen – 7.11 (36 apps)
9. Erik Lamela – 7.09 (32 apps)
10. Kyle Walker – 7.09 (31 apps)
So perhaps Pochettino might want to keep Fazio within his ranks for a little longer and even play him a bit more, otherwise it could prove to be yet another transfer gaffe from Spurs.
After all, he’s got a better rating than Spurs’ current first choice centre-backs despite playing only a handful of games.
The WhoScored Rating is generated using over 200 contextual data points which look at every action taken by the player throughout every appearance he makes in the context of what impact that action had on the game and the proceeding passage of play. The resulting ratings are therefore completely unbiased (ie. not affected by a human applying their subjective opinion), and measure all player performances across the world on the same scale and criteria.
