Is this a good move by United?
Absolutely. Since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, United have struggled to maintain the same identity.
They hired and fired David Moyes and Louis van Gaal in the space of three years, and even though they have reached two finals this season under Mourinho, they could finish outside the top five in the Premier League.
The majority of players under Ferguson’s rule have gone, so if one of them could stick around while also helping the young guns develop, it should be a welcome move at Old Trafford.
Carrick’s 11-year experience at the club is important in the dressing room, and he can carry that into the development squads.
Having successful former players within the fabric of the club, such as Nicky Butt, can only be helpful for the aspiring talent trying to break through.
