da pinup bet: West Ham are set to go head-to-head with Chelsea for the services of non-league goalkeeping talent Tarek Najia, according to The Daily Mirror.
What’s the word?
da bet7: As the two London sides settle into their regimes under new managers, West Ham and Chelsea could take their rivalry into the transfer market in the pursuit of Dagenham and Redbridge talent Najia, The Daily Mirror reports.
Both clubs from the capital are said to have sent scouts to watch the 17-year-old in action for the non-league side against AFC Hornchurch on Tuesday, where the 6ft 3in stopper made his first-team debut for the club.
Despite conceding four times in a 4-2 defeat, Najia seems to have caught the eye as it is stated both Premier League clubs are pushing to bring the teenager to join their academy squads before the end of the month.
Should West Ham move?
Chelsea boast by far the best academy side in England right now, storming to consistent success, but it is well-documented that the Blues consistently fail to offer talented young players an opportunity in the first-team picture.
That is not the case for West Ham, who have recently seen Declan Rice rise from the academy into a regular first-team role and have the likes of Nathan Holland banging on the door to follow the Republic of Ireland international into the side.
The goalkeeping position has been an area of problems for the Hammers in recent years but the signing of Lukasz Fabianski has fixed that, albeit temporarily as the Poland international is now 33, so Najia could become the long-term number one at the London Stadium.
