da spicy bet: West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini has suggested that he will keep faith with Javier Hernandez despite Marko Arnautovic’s availability, per the club’s official website.
Arnautovic has not played for 90 minutes for the club since January, when he scored twice in a 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.
What’s the word?
Hernandez laid on an assist last time out against Newcastle United and also scored against Fulham at the London Stadium, though he was left on the bench against Manchester City.
Pellegrini, though, has been impressed with his performances, despite the fact that he has completed the full 90 minutes once for the club in the Premier League under his management.
And he has now suggested that the Mexico international, who has scored a total of five top-flight goals in 2018-19, will stay in the starting XI even with Arnautovic available.
“I am very pleased with the way Javier Hernandez is playing,” he said, in quotes reported by the club’s website.
“Javier is in a good moment, he is committed to the team, he is making good movements in attacking areas. Maybe, as is the case for all strikers, they want to score more goals but he is always involved in ways that allow us to score.
“We also have Marko Arnautovic coming back so we have options for the starting XI and also for the bench.
“I always say that for a manager it is more difficult when you don’t have players. Maybe one of them for different reasons must wait, or they can play both together, but having good options is a solution for me, not a problem.”
Keep Arnautovic out
Hernandez has always been fully committed to the Hammers cause this season, despite the fact that he has struggled to see games out.
The same cannot be said of Arnautovic, who has struggled for form since his flirtation with China in January.
He has not scored since New Year’s Day and is on a run of five appearances without a goal.
Hernandez, though it is not difficult, is the more prolific of the pair, and also offers a different, pacier threat than the muscular Austrian.
Ultimately, the former Manchester United striker should retain his place in Pellegrini’s XI this weekend.
