Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez says the Anfield club should have made even more money from the sale of Fernando Torres.
In an interview with the BBC, Benitez also revealed he would love to manage the Merseyside club again.
Torres’ deadline-day transfer move to Chelsea for a British record fee of 50 million pounds raised eyebrows, with the Spanish striker struggling with injuries and form in 2010 but Benitez says last year Liverpool could have gained more from his sale.
“I think last year we were talking about 70m pounds,” Benitez said.
“People were talking about maybe you receive an offer from another club. They were talking about 70m pounds.”
Benitez says the price of Torres is not exorbitant, even though Torres was not at his best last year.
“He was not playing at the same level the last time, but he is still a very good player. It is big money but could (have been) even better,” he said.
The former Inter Milan boss also failed to rule out a return to Anfield, despite the success caretaker manager Kenny Dalglish is having.
“To be manager of Liverpool is a dream for me. This time, I know that Kenny is doing really well.”
“I have to wait and keep watching games, but if you say to me in the future would you like to be manager, for sure, no doubt about this.”
“When, that is the question. I have to move forward, anyway.”
